The short answer is no. , tips are not part of the vietnamese culture. , The vietnamese do not leave a tip, or in restaurants or tours or anything. Pay the price that must be and until then.

In fact, I sometimes I have tried to leave as tips and I have looked downright confused, shaking his head, as if he were thinking, “this has not been learned well the price”.

But, oh! There are 3 exceptions.

Massage centres

In certain centers of massage yes that is expected to leave a tip if the massage you liked it and if not you, can you ask if there are any problems with the massage,. There are centres where, in fact, even you are informed in advance that they expected a tip or gratuity and tell you what number they see fit.

On the other hand, there are also sites of massage where it operates a “no tip” policy, which means they do not accept tips, and which do not, they are going to take or even insist on leaving. Sometimes they are a tad more expensive, but I really would prefer, since you know exactly how much you’re going to pay since you walk through the door, and there is thus no room for misunderstanding. If you want to live an experience of spa and massage authentic, I recommend you visit Huong Sen in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh.

The ferryman after the boat ride

When you’re on the boat in places such as Tam Coc, Hoa Lu , or the pagoda of the perfume, it is very common that people who lead the rowing boat, often with feet, you ask for a tip at the end. To me, at first I was surprised, but after years of living here and many boat trips under my belt, I have accepted it as something completely normal, and will happily leave a tip after each ride in the boat.

I ground leaving about 50,000 dongs (2€), because usually strive hard in to make you spend a nice time, offer to take photos in the best places, and, in addition, rowing during the entire trip, and usually lasts an hour or an hour and a half.

Just like with the massage, there are certain locations of boating in which the boatmen have completely forbidden to ask for a tip (as for example in Trang An in Ninh Binh), in which case, obviously, don’t leave a tip.

At the end of the tour

On the tours for foreigners, the guides tourist often encourage travelers to leave a tip at the end of trip. This also occurs in some tours for vietnamese but, as far as I know, is not so common. I’ve gone on several tours oriented to vietnamese and, in this case never has asked me to leave a tip.

I forgot, this is a last case!

If you’re in a tourist area, you’ve dined outside and the food has left enraptured, don’t repress , and just a tip. don’t worry, you are not going to offend. You most likely understand that it is your way of giving thanks, continue on the tip and keep in the pocket with a smile from ear to ear.
These locals in the tourist areas do not expect or seek the tips of their clients, but if you’re going to give you a joy.

Because this has been all dear friends,@@. You know one more fact about the vietnamese culture.

Now, if you are not clear on what to bring to Vietnam, I recommend my article whatdo you need to put in your backpack to Vietnam?
