A few weeks living in Vietnam, I decided to try the app Tinder. I was surprised by the amount of matches that I had as a foreigner, I never before in my life had I been so successful! The problem is that the majority of people I spoke to were looking to start a serious relationship that could lead to marriage. The truth is that I was glad to see that I had raised the interest of many people, but the fact of having so many conversations to be unsuccessful left me feeling a little bittersweet.

How to find a person who look more or less the same as I?

3 tips for dating apps, dating in Vietnam

Be clear with what you are looking for.

If you are using a dating application, it is very advisable to clearly express what you’re looking for: a serious relationship?, does the person of your visa?, what’s something casual?, isn’t it clear to you? Whatever it is, it is worth to express it: either option is good and, most important, this clarity will help you to find a person compatible with you.

Be aware that the photos don’t always reflect the reality.

In Vietnam, hire a professional photographer to make you small photo sessions is not something to be nothing unusual. So, it is very normal to see people taking photos in large quantities in many iconic places or even in enclosures exclusively prepared to go to take photos (with decorations, flowers, clothing rental, etc). In addition, to these photos, sometimes I add filters or touch-ups so that the person quit even more attractive in the photos.

For this reason, I recommend you do a video call before meeting in person. this way you’ll be able to see how is the person in reality and interact a little bit, so that you can decide with more information if the person you are interested or not (also, the other person will also be able to get a better idea about it).

Beware of scams or deception

I have personally interacted with people I have tried to capture for teaching me how to make money with cryptomonedas, and on one occasion I was with a girl who asked me for money in exchange for going to a hotel after dinner (it was a very unpleasant situation, and I felt cheated and very uncomfortable). In addition, I have heard that there are people who ask you to send them money, often explaining that it needed an operation health or a family member has been in an accident and need help (in many cases, these people are scam artists).

This type of people who do not go out front and looking to take advantage of it are a minority, probably a 1%, but it is worth remembering that there are not to fall into their traps.

Applications dating in Vietnam

Tinder

Tinder is the most popular internationally. In this application I have not had the opportunity to talk with so many people. In my opinion, this is because the application tries to people to have a Premium plan to take full advantage of. This application has become more and more popular in Vietnam in the last few years, so I highly recommend trying it.

✅ The vast majority of people who use it are able to communicate in English.
❌ Few matches without premium.

Badoo

I have quite enjoyed using this application, both because I have known quite a few people through this app (more than Tinder or Bumble), and because I’ve met people of different ages and both people who speak English as a people who did not speak English.

✅ More matches and conversations on Tinder and Bumble.
❌ Pretty advertising (sometimes it’s a bit annoying).

Bumble

Bumble is similar to Tinder in the fact that it is an application quite international in the most of the people speak English. This application has the particularity that, once there is a match, lto application forces the woman to take the first step in the first 24 hours after the match (in the form of non-heterosexual any two people can take the first step). In this application I have noticed that you often engage in conversations with people with whom I usually have something in common (for example, people interested in the hispanic world, or in education, or learn languages).

✅ Conversations with people more compatible.
✅ Less empty talks, and matches inactive.
❌ Less conversations on Badoo.

Facebook dating

This app is part of the implementation of FB ordinary. Facebook Dating surprised me a lot and has important strengths:

✅ Does not have a stop landslides that you can do in 24 hours.
✅ You can see who you’ve liked before match.
✅ You do not have premium option, so that you have all the functionality at your fingertips.
✅ It has No advertising!
❌ Most of the people who used it in Vietnam don’t know how to speak English, and it is not possible to copy the messages from the app to the translator.
❌ Application may have errors, or cannot access your location correctly.

Vietnam Cupid

This application is perfect for those of you who are looking to find a person to form a stable partner and form a future project, for example, a family. This page has an application for Android and IOS, but you can also use it through your web page.

✅ Users provide a lot of info to your profile.
✅ The amount of people who respond to the messages is much higher than in the other apps.
✅ It is designed for people from other countries come in contact with people of Vietnam.
✅ Has a functionality to translate the messages directly in the application of the vietnamese language.
✅ The risk of giving people scammers is low for the application keeps a pretty strict.
❌ To be able to communicate with other users, one of the two you should be a premium user (paying a fee).
