What SIM card will recommend to buy on your trip to Vietnam?
I advise you to purchase a SIM card from the company Viettel. Viettel is the mobile operator of the government of Vietnam and, as such, has the best infrastructure of antennas, which results in better coverage of the country. This is especially useful if you are planning a visit to mountain areas such as Sapa or Ha Giang, where other companies may leave you without a signal in some places.
However, other brands such as Mobiphone or Vinaphone also they are reliable and they work quite well.

What mode of card to buy? How much does it cost?
The price of the SIM card will depend primarily on two factors:
- Whether or not to include calls and a telephone line.
- The amount of gigs of Internet offers.
In my opinion, the vast majority of travelers will not need to have a telephone line, or calls during your trip to Vietnam, as they will be able to contact with accommodations, bus, tours, etc, through applications such as WhatsApp or Zalo, the messaging app most used in Vietnam.
About how many gigs to hire, as a reference I tell you that I have a rate of 4GB per day and, honestly, in all these years I’ve never come to spend the 4GB in a single day.
Where to buy the SIM?

At the airport they are going to offer prices slightly higher than those of the official stores (3€ or 4€) difference, but in exchange you’re going to be able to have your SIM before you get to the city, and you’re going to report in English both spoken and written.
In addition,if you have any problem to connect to the network in vietnamese, the person at the desk you will solve instantly. Just tell them of what happens to you, saying, “sorry, no Internet”, let the phone unlocked and they will connect you to the network in a matter of seconds.
If you buy your SIM card at the airport, the process will be quick and painless (yes, make sure that you register the SIM in your name using your passport, if you do not stop working in a few days).
The prices in the pictures below are the prices of the SIM offered at the airport in different positions.

Option 2: buy the sim in a shop Viettel
This option is cheaper, but somewhat less convenient, because you have to get to the city and find a store Viettel.
The prices you see in the image on the right correspond to rates of 30-day and include both the price of the SIM card as the rate or a package of data and calls you choose. “Options for Internet only” indicates prices without calls, while the options below, which include calls.
In summary, it is the more economical alternative, although a little less comfortable.
A comfortable alternative: Hire a apud esim of the company’s vietnamese Gigago

Do you have a phone compatible with virtual cards apud esim? If this is so, you’re in luck! Now you can hire a apud esim vietnamese from your country to have Internet just landed in Vietnam.
The apud esim that I recommend is Gigago, because it is more economical than other like Airalo and Holafly. in Addition, it gives you the option of choosing between multiple local operators that prefer (for example, Viettel) and select from an option only for the Internet , or a combination of the Internet + phone line.
You can get a 5% discount when you hire your apud esim using the promotional code AVENTURASCONALBERTO5. you Can check out my full article on eSIMS in Vietnam.
