The first time that I came to Vietnam costume many, many things that are not needed, and I forgot a lot that I would have been useful.
After years of living and traveling in Vietnam, and a lot of learning along the way, I’ve put together a guide of objects indispensable for those of you who are preparing your trip to Vietnam.
What to put in your backpack to Vietnam? The 3 essential

👉 Passport with more than 6 months of validity and enough sheets free.
👉 Documents required for the visa in case you need to. check the article on How to process your visa to Vietnam?
👉 Travel insurance. Takes the phone number and policy to hand. Today I recommend HeyMondo, because of its quality-price hedging and unique (i.e. coverage of the VIP room, in the event of delay of the flight). More info in the article What insurance do you recommend for your trip to Vietnam?

Sun cream.
Because in Vietnam can make a heat frightening and, in addition, it is not very easy to get sunscreen non-bleaching in this country. If you were in Spain or America at this time, I would buy this cream solar.
Repellent anti mosquito: sprays or bracelet –s.

It is important to protect ourselves from mosquito bites during our trip to Vietnam, especially in areas of nature, since cases of diseases such as dengue fever, are relatively common. Health authorities are also recommended to prevent japanese encephalitis and malaria, although I personally have not met any of these in the first person,. The risk of disease is very low, but it is worth the prevent. In the past, I’ve used this spray and this bracelet to prevent mosquito bites.
Permethrin spray.
Generally, the screens come impregnated with this substance factory, as it has the capability of wiping out any bug that pose. This makes the permethrin is a substance that is perfect for you to apply to your clothing, to the curtains of your accommodation and the mosquito nets, which may after years of washes have lost this substance.
You can get a spray of this compound with permethrin here. I used it, and is easy to apply and helpful, and, in addition, it smells quite soft. I personally use it at home regularly, especially if I’ve had the windows open.

Refreshing lotion Post-bites

Even if you take precautions, you may still suffer a mosquito bite or other insects. The refreshing lotion can provide immediate relief by reducing the itching, swelling and discomfort that produce bites. In my experience, in Vietnam is not very common to find this type of lotion, so I recommend to buy it and bring it to your country (although, of course, is not essential).
Clothing very light in summer, and heavy clothes in winter
If you travel to Vietnam is in the summer, I would advise you to bring clothes very light: shirts, pants, and fine shorts, and sandals are comfortable. in The heat and humidity in Vietnam in the summer can be very suffocating, and wear light clothing helps.
On the other hand, if you come in winter, to the north you’ll need to bring warm clothes and closed shoes because it’s cold, and it can rain quite a bit.
A hat/cap
In addition to bring light clothing, I recommend you bring a hat or a cap. , As we have said, the heat in Vietnam in the summer it can be very overwhelming and protect your head should be one of your priorities.

A raincoat and a waterproof backpack

In Vietnam it can rain at any time of the year, but especially you can expect storms short in the summer (and occasionally more long-lasting), and rainfall is persistent in winter in the north (by which time can be weeks without rain or rain can occur two weeks without stopping).
For this reason, I recommend you bring a light raincoat and a cubremochilas waterproof to protect your clothes from the rain.
Cameras.

This trip to Vietnam is going to be unforgettable, and you’re going to see and experience realities that are not likely you imagined. This is why I recommend you bring a good camera or, at least, a good mobile with which to capture your great moments in Vietnam.
Travel pillow.

You’re going to spend many hours on planes (if you come from Europe, minimum 17 hours of flight time, and quite a few more if you come from America) and, almost certainly, you are sleeping in a bus or train bed. For this reason, I recommend you bring everythingthat I can do you one better break. I found a pack of pillow, eye mask and earplugs that looks great, and I think you’re going to thank to lead this kind of things to avoid noise and lights annoying either in transport or in type accommodation hostels.
A backpack of medium-size.
Bring a medium-sized backpack and/or small to be able to save the most important things that you want to carry with you on trips of one or two days is important. My backpack is 30 litres, and the truth is that it seems to me that is a perfect size to carry along on any excursion. This type of backpacks you can buy imitation in Vietnam at a cheaper price.
Portable charger.
If you come to Vietnam on vacation, and want to visit places like Sapa and Halong, it is sure that you’re going to make long trips (4, 5 or more hours) train and/or bus. For this reason, I recommend that you bring a portable charger of quality and with plenty of cargo capacity, so that you can see series on mobile, use Google maps, etc, without worrying about your battery.

Tampons

In Vietnam, the majority of women use sanitary pads and is not very common to find tampons in supermarkets. It is possible to find in some supermarkets, international in big cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh city, but if you were needed at any other place it may be impossible to find in stores near you.
What is an adapter?

In Vietnam, the plugs are compatible with plugs of Spain, and Japan. Plugs of type A, C and F are compatible with plugs of Vietnam. If your country are not of this type, or are you going to do a trip through several countries, we recommend you to buy an adapter. in Addition, some have USB ports built-in, so that you can connect multiple devices at the same time.
